The flag ship of the YRGA "The Thornton Trophy" was held at Flamborough Head Golf Club. The home of the YRGA President Bill Tose. This competition is open to all the member clubs of the Association who have to provide 2 golfers to play. There are two categories 16-19 and 20 -28. They play as a team but also can win the category section they are in.The first tee off time was 08.00am and the last one was 15.50. Many of the golfers had never played the course and were looking to chalking up the experience. It was very overcast with a gentle breeze (for Flamborough that is) to start with but with a promise of blue skies later.Throughout the day a wide range of scores came in some good, some not so good and some very good.Flamborough team posted the target with a nett 64 and a nett 73(137).This was still leading until Oakdale came in with a 67 & 64(131) approx 3.00pm.There were scores posted with the same but unfortuately their team mates did not do so well. Nobody came close to these scores as a team.During the day a young golfer named G Cunningham from Headingley Golf Club had a hole in one on the 10 hole.We thoroughly enjoyed the whisky he provided. Well done to him

Competition Statistics are as follows:

104 clubs in the Association

80 clubs played

64 submitted a score

16 had no return but completed the course.

At the Presentation Mr President thanked the comittee on behalf of the Member Clubs for organising the competition at Flamborough GC and helping to make it a resounding success. He thanked the players who had made the journey to play and hoped they had had a very pleasurable day and a safe journey home.Unfortunately because most of the winners could not stay for the presentation it was low key but they had promised to attend the Annual Dinner for the official presentation.

Next years venue is Shipley Beck Foot Golf Course
