Welcome

Richard Poynton President 2024

President's Charity 2024

Message from the President.
Hello to all YRGA members,
It was a great honour to be nominated by my area (Wakefield) to be the 2024 Yorkshire President. 2024 has some special milestones for me personally, firstly it is my 70th year, secondly it is the 25th anniversary of me playing my first ever Rabbits match at my home club of Normanton GC and lastly it’s 20yrs since I became Rabbits Captain at NGC and attended my first YRGA AGM (at Horsforth GC in those days).

1999 seems a long time gone (and it is) but over those 25 years I have enjoyed myself immensely playing Rabbits golf, meeting some great people and playing some memorable courses over this time. Indeed it is this enjoyable experience of playing different courses and meeting nice people, some who become lifelong friends that is the secret to the success of Rabbits golf.

In 2024, Rabbits golf is still in a healthy place, but maybe Rabbits officials and particular secretaries are having to work just that bit harder than they used to do, to ensure every Rabbits match is played with a full complement of players. It is vitally important that active Rabbit members spread the word to new club golfers with handicaps above 15 to get actively involved in their Rabbit Sections as once they do they will probably be hooked, like me for the next 25 years, and they are the future of Rabbits golf.

Geoff our 2023 President will certainly be a hard act to follow as he had a great year and seeing the incredible amount of work the Committee put in supporting the President and running the organisation gives me tremendous reassurance that 2024 should run smoothly and successfully.

Enjoy your golf in 2024 everyone, I know I will and if you bump into me on the wrong fairway (your Fairway) apologies in advance.

Richard Poynton, 2024 YRGA President
